Berno Client Service Advisor Donna Ellis, CFP®, did her part to help retirees plan for potential senior living needs at a recent panel discussion at Stonecrest Senior Living Community in Cincinnati.
Donna was one of five speakers at the open public meeting on March 27, 2019. Sponsored by Stonecrest, the meeting explored the theme of “Design Your Future for Senior Living.” The panel speakers shared from their areas of professional expertise and fielded questions from the audience.
Donna provided a financial planner’s perspective in discussing “How to Look at My Assets for Senior Community Living.”
“This is a crucial topic for many retirees as they age,” Donna said. “I wanted people to understand the need to be proactive now so that they are ready when they need to be.”
Donna’s talk included:
Choosing a senior community that fits within your budget
Deciding where you want to live and taking steps such as putting your name on a waiting list
Having difficult conversations with family members
Comparing your current living expenses vs. your future expenses in a senior community
Sources to help pay for living costs, including pensions, investment accounts, Social Security, and home sales
Other speakers addressed the role of Medicare, long-term-care insurance, veterans’ benefits, and downsizing.
