Bruce founded Berno Financial Management, Inc. in July 1993 at the age of 33. His primary goal was to provide completely independent, unbiased investment advice and comprehensive personal financial planning. Close personal relationships and attention to detail were high priorities. These founding principles continue to guide the firm today. Berno Financial Management, Inc. (BFMI) was one of the first truly independent, fee-only comprehensive financial planning and investment advisory firms in Cincinnati. BFMI has been recognized on the nation’s Top Wealth Manager’s list in Bloomberg Wealth Manager magazine’s annual list since inception in 2001. Bruce has a
strong commitment to high standards and industry leadership. He
completed his Certified Financial Plannerä
(CFP®) professional accreditation in 1992. Bruce
was accepted in to the National Association of Personal Financial
Advisors (NAPFA) in 1996 and is a NAPFA Registered Financial Advisor.
NAPFA has the most stringent professional association admission
requirements and continuing education requirements and is considered the
industry’s premier professional association. Bruce chaired NAPFA’s first Basic Training Conference in
1997, served on the national membership committee, served as NAPFA
Midwest Region President and Chair from 2001-2003 and as a National
Board member in 2002-2003. He
is a member of the Financial Planning Association’s Greater Cincinnati
Chapter Career Development Committee and is a former Chapter Board
Member. Bruce is a member of the Cincinnati Estate Planning Council and
a former adjunct faculty member at Cincinnati State Technical and
Community College, where he taught Personal Financial Planning. Bruce’s expertise is cited by
national and local media. He has been quoted in The New York Times,
USA Today, Financial Advisor, In The Vanguard, Kiplinger’s
Retirement Report, Mutual Funds magazine, Bloomberg Wealth
Manager, NAPFA Advisor, Morningstar Advisor.com, ABA

He is regularly quoted in and a periodic contributor to the Cincinnati
Business Courier. He
served on the Editorial Board for “Tools and Techniques of
Investment Planning” professional reference book published by The
National Underwriter Company in 2004. Bruce invests a
significant amount of time and energy in professional development. His
continuing education hours greatly exceed required minimums. He
participates in two NAPFA Study Groups on the local and national level.
He frequently meets with other professional advisors to exchange ideas
and regularly attends national, regional and local conferences. His
reading time is primarily professional. Bruce volunteers
for many community, church and school programs.
He serves on the Board of Executive Advisors for the Department
of Finance at Xavier University and the Advisor’s Network for The
Greater Cincinnati Foundation. He
is the class agent for the Miami University Class of 1982 Scholarship
Fund. He served on the Board of Trustees at the Cincinnati Association
for the Blind (Investment Committee Chair & Planned Giving
Committee) from 1995 to 2004. Prior to founding Berno Financial Management, Inc., Bruce worked for U.S. Bank from June 1991 to June 1993 as a Personal Trust Business Development Officer. He was with Fifth Third Bank from May 1985 until June 1991 serving one year in Personal Trust Administration, 4 years on the Trust Investment staff as a portfolio manager and research analyst, and one year with Fifth Third Securities. His first job out of college was with United Telephone Company of Ohio as a Management Intern and a Benefits Representative assisting with the pension and employee benefit plans. He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Finance from Xavier University in 1985 and his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Miami University in 1982. He is a native of Mansfield, Ohio. He and his wife
Karen, who is a Cincinnati native, and their three children live in
Anderson Township. They are
active members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Financial Management, Inc in November 1997.
She graduated from Before joining Berno Financial Management, Donna worked as a bookkeeper and in human resources for a small company. She also worked at her church as the Director of Youth for all youth grades 7 – 12. Continuing her desire to work with people, she now enjoys working with clients and helping them identify and reach their financial goals at Berno Financial Management, Inc. Donna’s focus at Berno Financial Management, Inc. is on clients’ portfolio management and on investment research for client education and analysis on current and prospective investments. Mary A. Dicker Client
Service Assistant Mary
joined Berno Financial Management, Inc. in January 2005 as a Client
Service Assistant. Mary
will be working towards obtaining the Registered Para Planner
designation. Before
joining Berno Financial Management, Inc., Mary worked at a small local
company as an office manager and customer service representative.
She also worked for fourteen years at a local hospital as a
phlebotomist and histologist before leaving to pursue a career directly
related to working with customers and office management.
Mary
and her husband, John, live in Fairfax.
They have three children. Their
oldest, Jenny, is in graduate school at Ohio State University. Their
son, Kevin, is a US Marine stationed in North Carolina and Lauren, their
youngest, attends Mariemont High School.
